Hatch Medical and Physician Inventor Form Company
to Develop Next Generation Venous Access Catheters

Atlanta, Georgia - Medical device incubator and technology brokerage firm, Hatch Medical, L.L.C. (www.hatchmedical.com) today announced it has signed an agreement with physician inventor, Aubrey Palestrant, M.D. for his unique vascular access technology consisting of four proprietary patents. Under the terms of the agreement, Hatch Medical and Aubrey Palestrant, M.D. will create FlatCath, L.L.C., a joint venture, to develop and market this unique vascular access technology to the medical device industry.

Dr. Palestrant's proprietary technology and design elements described in his patents are intended to improve catheter patency and longevity while minimizing vessel trauma and thrombus formation.  Large, multi-lumen catheters are regularly placed into the venous system to perform hemodialysis, infusion or aspiration.  Catheter placement often creates turbulence and sluggish blood flow resulting in a myriad of patient-related health concerns.  Dr. Palestrant's patents allow for a catheter design that significantly decreases its cross-sectional dimensions within the blood vessel when the catheter is not in use.  Consequently, this unique design reduces the likelihood of catheter-based complications resulting from thrombus formation.

"This unique catheter technology fits perfectly into our portfolio of vascular access products and Hatch Medical's guiding principle to improve the lives of patients," commented Steven Hvozda, Executive Vice President of Hatch Medical.   "Management and preservation of vascular access relies on many creative approaches.  We are convinced this innovation will play an important role in the evolution of the next generation of access catheters," added Mr. Hvozda.

Aubrey Palestrant, M.D., physician and inventor commented, "Venous access is a vital aspect of survival for many patients with chronic diseases that require long term venous infusions or dialysis.  Hatch Medical is an ideal partner to develop this technology, as their expertise and experience in vascular access devices is vital.  I look forward to taking an active role in the development and commercialization of this novel technology and truly believe it will alter what is now considered to be the standard of care in vascular access catheter technology."
